Dove Adoptions partners with a licensed agency to help process adoptions through China.
Who can adopt from China?
- Married couples aged 30-50 at the time of Dossier submission
- If previously divorced, current marriage must have been for at least 5 years
- Income must be at least $10,000 for each household member including the prospective child
- Family must have less than 5 children under the age of 18
- Prospective Adoptive Parents must be free of mental illness and clinical depression
- Prospective Adoptive Parents must be free of cancer
- Prospective Adoptive Parents must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of under 40

What can I specify about my prospective child?
- Age range (e.g. 6-18 months)
- Gender
- Health status (including any special needs you would consider)
What information is available when I receive a referral of a prospective child?
- Known medical history
- Photo
- Letter of Acceptance that must be signed by Prospective Adoptive Parents in order for the adoption to proceed
Do I have to travel to China?
At least one parent must travel; China prefers both parents to travel and will require additional paperwork for solo travelers
Please note: costs and length of process vary depending on many factors which include but are not limited to court closures and court delays, how quickly you are able to submit the required paperwork, and many other factors involving domestic and international entities. Any information on the length or cost of an adoption process is approximate and subject to change without notice.
Approximately how long does the process take?
Timeframes for the process vary but the timeframe for prospective adoptive parents to be matched with a child is 18-24 months. There is typically an additional 2 months before prospective adoptive parents can travel. China is in the process of overhauling its adoption system so this information may change.
Approximately how much does it cost?
Costs may vary based on age, health status, or other factors. Currently, the approximate cost for an adoption from China is $12,500. China is in the process of overhauling its adoption system and associated costs and fees are expected to increase.
What else should I know?
- Post-adoption reports are required by China and are due at one month and six months from the date on the adoption certificate.
- Families will stay in China for approximately 2 weeks during which time they will be required to visit the province their child is from
